In 2014, NADP continued to serve as your voice to wide array of industry stakeholders and the media. Following are highlights from the year.
Meeting Highlights
ADA Standards Committee on Dental Informatics (SCDI)
NADP represented the dental benefits industry during the American Dental Association Standards Committee on Dental Informatics meeting in Chicago. SCDI develops industry standards and guidelines for electronic transactions.
ADA Code Maintenance Committee (CMC)
NADP Deputy shared industry viewpoints this regarding revisions to Current Dental Terminology (CDT) codes during the CMC meeting in Chicago.
DQA
Since its inception in 2009, NADP volunteers and staff have represented the dental benefits industry as members of the Dental Quality Alliance (DQA) Executive Committee. As your representatives, NADP was involved in the DQA's development of the five DQA measures endorsed by the National Quality Forum (NQF). This endorsement is considered the gold standard for measuring healthcare quality.
HL7
As voting members of the Health Level 7 (HL7) Attachments, Clinical Quality and Electronic Health Records Workgroups, NADP advocates for the unique needs and requirements of dental transactions to ensure your company's operations room smoothly. NADP represented our members at meetings in January and May.
NAIC
NADP represented members at three National Association of Insurance Commissioners meetings, which featured multiple sessions focused on various ACA aspects.
NCOIL
Twice last year NADP participated in discussions of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and underwriting at National Conference of Insurance Legislators (NCOIL) meetings.
Rutgers
In November, NADP Executive Director Evelyn Ireland presented on dental benefits at the Rutgers Business School in Piscataway, New Jersey. Her presentation was part of a "mini-MBA program" for dentists, which was developed in cooperation with the New Jersey Dental Society. While there, Ireland met with leaders of the New Jersey Dental Society to discussed non-covered services legislation and regulation of Dental Support Organizations. She also provided additional follow-up information for the program in December.
X12
As a voting member of X12, NADP worked diligently to promote EDI standards and monitored developments of healthcare standards to ensure the unique needs of the dental industry were met. NADP represented you at three meetings of X12 in 2014.

NADP published the following news releases in 2014:
"NADP Opposes Rules Limiting Access for Dental Patients to Texas" - The release highlighted proposed rules by the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners (TSBDE) that would restructure and limit a dentist's ability to enter into contracts that would allow a non-dentist control over non-clinical administrative services. The release was featured in the Dallas Morning News and Fort Worth Star Telegram and posted on Yahoo Finance, MarketWatch and MoneyNews.
"Album of Delta Dental Receives NADP Gabryl Award" - The release highlighted the recipient of the association's highest honor. The release appeared in several media markets including Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Fort Worth, Minneapolis, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Oakland, Sacramento and The State Journal (California).
