During the month of November, NADP advanced the industry by meeting with key lawmakers and stakeholders and informing the media about the impacts of health care reform on dental benefits. Following are highlights of these activities:
Meetings
ADA SCDI NADP Deputy Executive Director Timothy L. Brown represented NADP members at the November meeting of the
American Dental Association's Standards Committee for Dental Informatics in New Orleans, Louisiana. NADP speaks for you regarding the development of informatics standards, specifications, technical reports, and guidelines for the dental industry.
CADP NADP Executive Director Evelyn F. Ireland, CAE, traveled to Costa Mesa, California, to discuss issues of mutual concern with the board of directors of California Association of Dental Plans.
WEDI NADP Deputy Executive Director Timothy L. Brown and Dental Informatics Manager Brian Flynn served as the voice for dental during the Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange (WEDI) 2013 Fall Conference, Nov. 18-21 in National Harbor, Maryland. Leveraging NADP's voting position, your association worked to enhance the quality of care, improve efficiency and reduce costs of the American healthcare system by representing the unique EDI needs of the dental industry.
NCOIL Serving as your representative, NADP State Affairs Manager Eme Augustini attended the National Conference of Insurance Legislators (NCOIL) Nov. 20-21 in Nashville, Tennessee. Among the topics discussed were "Exchange Enrollment: What We Know So Far" and "Healthcare Costs in the ACA Era: Emerging Trends?"
ADEA At the 55th Annual American Dental Education Association Deans' Conference in Savannah, Georgia, NADP Executive Director Evelyn F. Ireland, CAE, and Health Care Reform Task Force Chair Jon K. Seltenheim, United Concordia Companies, Inc., presented "Oral Health in Primary Care: Implications of Health Care Reform for Oral Health Providers. At that meeting ADEA leadership expressed interest in an ongoing collaboration with NADP to make dental curriculum more responsive to emerging changes impacting dental practice.

"NADP Publishes Consumer Shopping Tips for Dental Coverage in Marketplaces," which provided examples of the various pediatric dental benefit options in the exchanges.
